In 2009, Dyfed-Powys Police asked each Division within its force to raise money for charity. Staff from Brecon Police Station, the Powys Divisional HQ came up with the idea of a navigation challenge over the Brecon Beacons. That year we were shocked to raise such a large amount of money as we only expected to raise a small amount, any amount would have been great… this lead to the WAAT4 being born, and 10 years later we are still working as a team for the vulnerable within the communities and to date have raised over £234,581.00 for our charities and good causes such as a few to mention - Brecon Mountain Rescue, Wales Air Ambulance, COPS, Teenage Cancer Trust, PC Rathbones Blue Lamp Foundation, Help for Heroes, Tŷ Hafan, Usk House, Royal British Legion and many more…
Since then thousands of people have taken part in the challenge from around the UK and taken more than 10 billion steps.
Here’s what people have had to say about the challenge:
“I have to say that this was one of the most enjoyable challenges I have partaken in, in recent years! The comeraderie between the teams is wonderful and helps when the air is a little blue :-) I will most definitely be back next year! Well managed event and very reasonable price wise. Thanks WAAT4, you made our weekend.”
“Well......this event is quite possible the best that ever was. not only a physical challenge but very much a mental challenge, which rewards you with the most beautiful scenery and panoramic views that Wales has to offer.... it will put you through the elements, you will get tired and muddy and undoubtedly wet as this is Wales after all...... but the hog roast and beer at the end will see you through and make it all worth while ;) SO get a team together........ enter on the website.…”
